Northwest Hills Eye Care – Eye Examinations
Retinal imaging:
Your eyes are a window to your health. With an Optomap image we are able to scan and see the tissues inside your eye. Both ocular and systemic diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, high blood pressure, macular degeneration, retinal holes or tears, and retinal detachments can be identified with the Optomap. One of the many advantages to this technology is that the images can be compared each year to look for changes. The Optomap also allows you, the patient, to see the inside of your eye just as the doctor sees it.
OCT imaging:
The OCT (ocular coherence tomography) is a non-invasive test that is similar to taking an ultrasound of the layers inside the retina. This technology allows us the ability to detect diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and other retinal problems before visual symptoms may even be present. Prevention is the key. With this technology that we offer, the doctors are able to better monitor the progression of an eye disease and determine if treatment is necessary much earlier, therefore saving sight.
Visual Field testing:
Visual field testing allows us to detect any dysfunction in the central or peripheral vision. Loss of your central or peripheral vision can be caused by various medical conditions such as glaucoma, a stroke, pituitary disease, brain tumors or other neurological problems.
AdaptDX Dark Adaptometer:
This AdaptDX allows us to detect macular degeneration in its earliest stages even before there might be signs of disease inside the eye. This technology measures dark adaptation which is the eye’s ability to adjust from bright light to darkness. Studies have shown that slowed dark adaptation indicate the earliest stages of macular degeneration even three years before there might be signs of spots in the retina that clue the doctor into knowing you have the disease. If you have a family history of macular degeneration, we recommend you have this test performed.
